Al-Bashir: Sudan sacrificed its unity for the sack of stability in South Sudan

August 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudanese President, Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir said on Sunday that Sudan, South Sudan’s northern neighbor, sacrificed and compromised its unity in order to achieve peace and stability in South Sudan.

Al-Bashir, like many African leaders including his Kenyan and Ugandan counterparts, was speaking during the signing ceremony of the final South Sudan peace deal in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

On Sunday, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed the long-awaited South Sudan final peace agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum

Other South Sudan armed and non-armed opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and the SPLM Former Detainees who initially declined the agreement also signed the deal.

“We in Sudan sacrificed the unity of Sudan for peace and stability in the south,” Bashir said not mentioning how his country sacrificed for its unity to favor its southern neighbor which has been marred in a civil war since December 2013.

Bashir reiterated the commitment of his government to continue helping the South Sudan from reviving from the destructive civil war saying his government will continue with the d development of timelines and schedules for the implementation of the agreement.

“We have the honor to stand with you with all our cadres and engineers in order to rehabilitate the infrastructure damaged by the war.  We will continue to develop plans, programs and schedules to implement what was agreed upon in Khartoum and we will follow it step by step,” he said.

Al-Bashir further said all he did to achieve peace in South Sudan is a part of his obligation imposed upon him by the his moral responsibility towards the Southern citizen.

“I have a moral responsibility to any citizen of southern Sudan”
