August 3rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The United Nations World Food Program, the WFP, is planning to send around 30,000 metric tons of humanitarian assistance to South Sudan via Sudan according to the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Ahmed Mohamed Adam.

The humanitarian response, by the world body targets  an approximately 1.7 millions conflict-affected civil population in South Sudan, who are in dire need of live-saving aid.
Humanitarians funding gap has led to an extreme scarcity of food in South Sudan, leaving the war-affected civil population destitute across the country. On a more optimistic note, the World Food Program (WFP) said that the support will continue for 10 consecutive months.
Preparations are underway and the UN Agency said it will send another 65,000 tons of live-saving humanitarian assistance to Renk in Upper Nile State, Bentiu in Unity States and Aweil, in Northern Bhar Al-Ghazal state.
According to the world body’s agency, the targeted areas have been affected the most by food shortage, since the onset of the county’s civil war in December 2013 between forces loyal to the country’s president, Salva Kiir and the former vice president Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.
The ongoing civil war has left millions of people homeless and food insecure, and uprooted millions of people from their homes to the neighboring countries. South Sudan warring factions are expected to ink a final peace deal in Khartoum in the next few days, raising a ray of hope for a lasting peace and stability in the country.
The SPLM (IO) representatives and the Government’s delegation team signed a preliminary power sharing agreement last month, in the presence of the Sudanese Mediation team in Khartoum but some opposition groups like the SSOA and former detainees declined to sign the agreement.
