NGOs forum in South Sudan condemn attack against aid groups

July 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s NGO forum has strongly condemn the atack which took place in Maban last week against aid groups by a group of angry youths who said they were protesting to demand employment opportunity in the Northern Upper Nile county.
Last week, a group of angry youth attacked the premise of many aid groups to demand job opportunity after the groups were angred for what they called descrimination by the aid organizations which they accused of employing people from outside.
In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia, the forum said it strongly condemn the violence against aid workers and groups argueing that it reduce the capacity by the aid workers to implement their jobs.
“Such senseless attacks hamper efforts by aid agencies and their staff who are working tirelessly in a challenging environment to help the most vulnerable people in need of life-saving assistance,” said Dr Pius Ojara, Director of South Sudan NGO Forum.
Ojara said the forum has been disappoited by the recent attack against aid workers in South Sudan saying it is unwarranted.
“The increase in attacks on aid workers’ is wrong, unwarranted and we are extremely disappointed,” the director said.
The statement further thanked the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service for helping to relocate the humanitarian workers from Maban.
“We would like to thank the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service for coordinating with the NGO Forum and affected agencies and ensuring a quick response in the relocation of personnel from Maban. The NGO Forum is also grateful to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan for providing protection during the evacuation process,” said Dr Ojara.
