South Sudan’s main armed opposition condemns Kiir’s term extension

July 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition faction under the leadership of  the country’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has condemned the extension of the term of Kiir’s government by the South Sudan parliament.

In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia today, the SPLM-IO National Youth League Chairperson of Information Committee Sirir Gabriel Yei Rut said the group condemn the action which the statement said breach the HLRF and jeopardize the ongoing peace talks.

“The SPLM IO National Youth League condemn the extension of the current transitional government of National Unity to 2021. The process has breach the High Level Revitalization Forum and it will jeopardize the ongoing peace search,” the statement said.

The statement said the group dismiss the extension and doom it unhealthy.

“We categorically dismiss the move and declare it unhealthy and it’s against the will of the people of South Sudan,” the statement said.

The statement urged the parliament to reconsider the move and call it off immediately because it jeopardize the ongoing process in Khartoum.

“We Wholeheartedly dishonor the extension of the term and appeal to the Parliament to reconsider their opinion to call it off as soon as possible. This will undermine the hope and the effort being exerted by the peace grantors,” the statement said.

The group also urge the region, the international community to condemn the move by the government to condemn the move which they said further the suffering of the people of South Sudan.

“We the Youth of SPLM in opposition call for the international Community especially Troika, African Union and Inter – Governmental Authority on Development ( IGAD) to condemn this unconditional move that aim to further the suffering of the people of South Sudan,” the statement further said.
