Sudan’s JEM fought alongside government forces in latest offensive against rebels: official

July 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has recently fought alongside South Sudan’s SPLA in the latest blow to the permanent ceasefire agreement declared by South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, SPLM-IO official told the Russia-based SPUTNIK news agency.

The SPLM-IO Director for the group’s National Committee for Information and Public Relations Pouk Both Baluang told the Russia-based news agency that the Darfurian rebel group participated and helped Kiir’s SPLA to attack opposition-held territory today in the afternoon.

“The government offensive was executed by the government with the help of the Darfurian rebel group, the JEM,” he told the news agency.

He pointed out that the offensive involved fourteen land-cruisers, three (3) artillery fire arms adding that the fighting is ongoing.

“The offensive involved 14 pick-up land-cruisers, three heavy artillery and the fighting is ongoing,” he added.

Baluang added that the government troops carried out similar violation in southern Unity State’s Rubkuai for the aim of reaching Koch County which is an opposition stronghold in the region but said the attacking troops have been defeated by their forces.

President Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum a permanent ceasefire agreement and came in two force on Saturday night but had been violated hours after it takes effects.
