Machar discuss South Sudan peace process with Sudanese Presidential Assistant: SUNA

July 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon who has been in the Sudanese capital Khartoum since late June met on Friday, the Sudanese Presidential Assistant Ibrahim Al-Sanusi at his private residence in Khartoum, the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported.

According to the state-run news agency, the two leader discussed the South Sudan’s peace process which has been mediated under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

“Al-Sanusi during the meeting assured Machar that there are indications that a final peace agreement between Southern parties will be in place in the near future reiterating the Sudanese power to mediate between the between them to achieve peace in their country,” the SUNA said.

The quoted the top Sudanese official as saying that the Sudanese President enjoys a huge respect and love from all the South Sudanese leaders as of this matter he will be able to achieve a lasting peace in the young African nation.

The senior Sudanese politician further said a peace agreement in the neighboring Sudan will be in the interest of peace in the whole of the African continent.

Machar, for his part, reiterated his commitment and that of his SPLM-IO to the IGAD peace mediation and assured the top Sudanese official that his forces will respect the recently declared permanent ceasefire agreement despite hindrances.
