June 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) —  Fighting has erupted in the Central Equatoria’s Kajo-Keji county between government troops and those loyal to the country’s former First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon after the two rival leaders declared a ceasefire both of them signed in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

In a press statement extended to the Nyamilepedia today, Wayi Godwill Edward, the spokesman of the Opposition Yei River state said government troops attacked their position at Kendiri in Kajo-Keji Country but said the attackers are being defeated by the opposition forces.

“Today, 29th June 2018, SPLA (IO) position at Kendiri in Kajo-Keji County came under heavy attack from the Juba regime force at Sokare which promted retaliation by our gallant forces of Brigades 1 and 4 under the command of Birg. Gen. Peter Wal and Brig. Gen. Moses Lokujo respectively. As I write now the attackers are being humiliated, repulsed and pursued in disarray towards their base,” he said in the statement.

The fresh attack which he said occurred at 9:00 am came few hours after President Salva Kiir Mayardit declared a permanent ceasefire following the signing of the Khartoum Agreement on the 27th June 2018 adding that the opposition is outraged by the anti-peace behavior of the Juba regime.

“We are therefore, outraged by this anti-peace behavior of Juba and we ask CTSAMM, UNMISS and those other bodies charged with the responsibility of supervising the Khartoum Declaration to investigate, verify and hold those enemies of peace accountable.  While we remain committed to observing the Khartoum Declaration in good faith, we also maintain our natural right to defend ourselves against any aggression,” he added.
