BREAKING: Machar officially declares permanent ceasefire, orders troops to remain in barracks
June 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon who signed a permanent ceasefire agreement with his arch-rival Salva Kiir Mayardiit on Wednesday in Khartoum have declared the permanent ceasefire and has ordered his forces to observe and respect the declaration also done by Salva Kiir Mayardiit.
In a letter of the order obtained by the Nyamilepedia, the prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader urged his forces to respect the ceasefire declaration which is expected to come into effect on Saturday midnight.
“In compliance to the Khartoum Declaration of Agreement between parties of the conflict of South Sudan which President Salva Kiir Mayardiit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and I, signed on 27th June 2018, witnessed by President Omar Hassan Ahmed El-Bashir, President of the Republic of Sudan and reference to article 1 of this agreement, I Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief, SPLM/SPLA, hereby declare permanent ceasefire and order all SPLM/SPLA (IO) forces in South Sudan to observe this permanent ceasefire agreement in the said agreement,” partly read the order obtained by the Nyamilepedia.
Machar said the permanent ceasefire, as stipulated for in the agreement, is expected to commence on Saturday midnight.
“The agreement shall come in tow force as from 00:01 Hours midnight of 0th June 2018,” the order partly read.
