BREAKING NEWS: Dr. Machar Lands Successfully
June 19th, 2018(Nyamilepedia) —— South Sudan’s former Vice President, Dr Riek Machar Teny, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/A in Opposition has touched down successfully a few minutes ago at the Bole International Airport in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
Dr. Machar, a symbol of self determination and an icon of South Sudan liberation, has been in exile for the last two years since he was forcefully uprooted from South Sudan in July 2016.
On his return to the region, Machar was warmly received by a huge delegation that include his deputy Chairperson, Hon. Henry Odwar, and mama Angelina Teny, the National Committee Chairperson for Security alongside Ethiopian government officials.
Machar’s homecoming is celebrated by his supporters across South Sudan and diaspora.
His abrupt release from house arrest shocked many people around the world but not his supporters and many military generals who have stood their grounds despite his absence for the last two years
Reacting on social media, many supporters and sympathizers have gone viral welcoming their leader and appreciating the region for making a U-turn to bring Machar back to the peace table.
“On your absence, all things went wrong and now that you came back those whom did all those wrongs I believe some of them are hospitalized suffering from stomachea, heart attack, blood pressure etc” Said Nyapan Gak on social media
“The chairman and C-In-C of the people’s movement Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon safely touched the ground at Bole International airport Addis Ababa/Ethiopia.” Said Gatwech Koang Toang, another social media commentator.
“If you want to measure the people’s power, temper with their beloved leader.” Said Miyong Kuon
While others are celebrating regional leaders are calling on Machar and his rival, Salva Kiir to put their nation first during their upcoming meeting and urge them to sacrifice personal ambitions.
“It is important that peace prevails in Souyth Sudan, President Kiir, Dr. Riek Machar please do South Sudan a favor, sacrifice your personal ambitions at the alter of greater goods. Allow peace to come to South Sudan” Said the outspoken Kenyan Lawyer and Historian, Professor PLO Lumumba.
Professor Lumumba calls on regional leaders and African union to put South Sudanese interests beyond their personal interests to ensure peace returns to the world’s youngest nation.
“My appeals to the leaders who are meeting in Addis Ababa is that time has come that they must ask themselves foundational question how will they be remembered by historians when the history of South Sudan is written. How will those who lost their lives remember them” PLO continued.
“The time is now we can no longer afford the luxuries of doing nothing, we can no longer afford the luxury of hiding our heads in the sand” He pledges.
