May 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Presidential Medical Unit said the doctor, who accused president Salva Kiir of being “medically unfit” to be President of the young African country, has “exposed himself to punitive measures” after having lied about a patient he has never been in contact with saying the Medical Council of South Sudan should have interrogations about the Doctor.

On Friday, a man who identified himself as Dr Mawien Akot claimed to be working as a consultant physician at South Sudan’s Presidential Medical Unit (PMU) and claimed that President Salva Kiir Mayardiit is medically unfit to be President of the world’s youngest country.

“The President is not in his mental capacity, and he is not in his physical capacity to rule the country” he said on Friday during a live Facebook video seen to the Nyamilepedia.

In the video, which he aired from Canada, the Doctor claimed to be going back to Juba saying he has the sole responsibility to be accountable to what he said.

“In the next one months or two months, I might be going back to Juba. I will go back to my position as a consultant physician, and what I say I am the one responsible for it. Even if they [government] kill me, I know I will die for my country,” he said.

In a press statement seen by the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, the PMU said Dr Mawein has never worked with the Presidential Medical Unit.

“Records at the PMU  are equivocal: Dr Mawien Akot has never been a full time or part time employee of the department. Its thus inconceivable that a practitioner in his sound mind and senses should claim having knowledge on medical condition of a “patient” he never seen nor examined. Dr Mawien’s derogatory remarks could be perceived as a cabal whose intention is to gratuitously muckrake an individual or institution,” the statement read part.

The statement, dated 30 April 2018 and signed by Andrew Akon, Head of the Presidential Medical Unit, accused the little-known medical doctor of violating the medical ethics and said he hoped the nation’s medical council would bring him to account threatening that he has exposed himself to punitive measures.

“Dr Mawien, by lying about a patient he never been physically in contact with, and going as far as talking openly about his condition has defaulted on those principles [medical ethics] and exposing himself to punitive measures by the regularity bodies of the profession. We hope the country’s Medical Council could have interrogations on Dr Mawien’s gesticulations on social media,” the statement added.

The statement assured the public that President Kiir is fine and able to discharge his duties as required.

“We can asseverate that H.E the President is well, calm and diligently going about his daily duties according to exigences and responsibilities of his office. His immediate priorities among many is to blend the conclusion of the revitalization process and those of the National Dialogue into a decisive and inclusive formula that will bring about the long-awaited peace to our country.” The statement said.
