April 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo risks closure over unpaid rental fees, a copy of a letter sent to South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation obtained by the Nyamilepedia revealed.

The letter dated 25th April 2018 and signed by Martin Issa Mizani, South Sudan Charge de Affairs in Congo, notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the final decision of the landlord of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan.

“I write to convey to your esteemed office the final decision of the landlord of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” the letter said.

The letter revealed that despite the efforts rendered by the staffs to convince the landlord to wait, the landlord has decided in a meeting held the same day the letter was sent that the South Sudan mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo should vacate his property not later than May 1.

“Despite our usual efforts to convince the landlord to continue bearing with us, he decided during a meeting held early today at the embassy that we should quit his property on Tuesday 1st of May 2018,” the letter said.

The letter revealed that the landlord accused the South Sudan diplomatic mission of not honoring their promises despite being always patient to them.

“He [Landlord] said that he has been very patient and always understands our situation but we never kept our promises; he has other engagements that need urgent financial support from this property and there are many outstanding lessees demanding him for it,” the letter revealed.

The Charge de Affairs urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to solves this issue as he communicated to the government back home the “nearest fate” of the South Sudan’s mission in the central African country in order to avoid the image of the country being tarnished.

“This communication serves as notification to Headquarters on the nearest fate of this mission and a request so that your esteemed office can try to rescue the mission and save the image of the our beloved country from being tarnished,” he said.

In January, South Sudan government closed its london embassy over failure to pay rental fees. Around a year before, the government recalled home Ambassadors from seven countries. This let to dispute between the recalled ambassadors and the government as they argues that the government must pay them before going home so they can pay the rents of their apartments.
