April 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The International Youth for Africa (IYA) has conclude a one-day mentorship workshop on conflict management and peacebuilding in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
25Â young Africans from South Sudan, Burundi and Uganda attended the workshop.
The IYA Executive Director Ter Manyang Gatwech says the main reason their organization introduced the mentorship program was to build togetherness between the youth for the purpose of training them on the conflict management.
“The main reason why we introduced the mentorship program at IYA is to bring young people together in order to train on conflict management, peacebuilding, leadership development skills, understanding human rights, women empowerment, psychosocial support and youth and development and available opportunities both interior and exterior in East African countries. The mentorship programs will runs for two years (2018-2019) in order to engage people in developmental programs. Our target from 14-35 years in South Sudan. This include; South Sudanese youth, Ugandans, Kenyans, Burundians, Rwandese and Tanzanians (East African Community). IYA appeal to donors to support the South Sudanese refuges in Uganda and Kenya,” Ter said.
John Machiek  Lueth, a volunteer and facilitator, said there is need for young people to engage them with development so that East African countries to have total political stability. Machiek conflict solved three five stages this include; competing, accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, and compromising.
Another presenter, Adison Joseph Garang, said in the event that young people are the pillars to nation building in Africa and world at large. Youth unemployment is threaten to national security let us our youth participate in development in South Sudan.
Esther Maureen Kanyago Finance and Administrator at International Youth for Africa (IYA) say South Sudan need bottom-top approach for conflict in South Sudan to come an end. She says IGAD should consider the local chiefs, women, youth to be included in the peace talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Anothetr training is expected to take place on the 11th May 2018. The topics were conflict management, peacebuilding, leadership development skills, understanding human rights, women empowerment, psychosocial support and youth and development.
The mentorship program is a initiative aimed at strengthening young leaders’ abilities to manage conflict nonviolently and lead organizations effectively, while creating a community of practice through which they can learn from each other, and share best practices, as they work to create positive change in their communities. Mentorship Program at the International Youth for Africa (IYA) was designed to counter the isolation felt by youth leaders and to increase their personal resilience working in conflict-affected environment. The mentorship program is target young people from the age of 14-35. Tackling some of the World’s most difficult challenges-from countering violence extremism to enhancing gender quality-those young people hold leaders roles within their local communities. The mentorship is target 3000 young in 2018 and in 2019 3000 young. people.
