Mar 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese rebels under the leadership of the country’s former First Vice President Riek Machar Teny said on Thursday that conditions set forth by the regional block, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for the release of their Chairman, Riek Machar, are baseless saying the mediation has taken side in the conflict.

Speaking to Damian Zane of the Focus on Africa, a BBC program, wife of the rebel leader Angelina Teny accused the IGAD of taking side saying these conditons including those saying Machar should renounce violence are baseless arguing that the opposition has signed the cessation of hostilities which she said means the armed opposition is looking for peaceful settlement of the conflict unlike the government which she accused of violating the truth just after its signature.

“Somebody has admitted now or the IGAD take the responsibility that they are responsible for the house arrest of Dr Machar which is very significant given that IGAD is the mediator of this peace process. We would have to find out at some stages what made a mediator to act in that way to target a party leader.” Teny said.

Machar has been under house arrest in south africa since late 2016 and the responsibility of his arrest remain speculative untill last week when IGAD decided to release him under conditions the SPLM-IO said are “baseless”.

Teny further said “The other significant thing is the condition that they place [to release Dr Machar]. The condition is that Dr Machar must renounce violence and must not obstruct peace. This is a problem in the sense that the SPLM-IO which is led by Dr Machar has already signed a cessation of hostilities agreement in December. We released the prisoners of war and so on which has not been replicated by the government. So if anybody need to renounces violence this {person} should be the government because the government has not implemented the cessation of hostilities agreement.”

She added that her party will not agree to these demands because they are baseless.

Yes, dear ones! It may seem painful making all those sort of condition to Dr. Machar, but regardless of all these things he will be released. Yes, I am not any connection with the authority but I know what they don’t know to be the truth or fact. All these things done against his will, all will work for his advantage. It is not a bad thing that you learn a lesson before you assume responsibility. All these bad things happen because those called leaders ascended to the power without anything learn first as a warning. When you go through difficulty like this you know full well what you do next when the Lord releases you. Because meantime you are learning and do not be consume with the grief of this condition any effective leader goes through his/her own lesson and that is what correct your decision. Do I say this thing base on assumption surely not, you may only think when you do not know the full story. The good leader is the one that endure hardship. I know it is frustrating but get the spirit of being patient, it will be lifted even in my connection which link to it.
