Government Says Renewal of UN Mission “Unfair Decision”
Mar 20th @018(Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan on Monday expressed disappointment over the renewal of the UN peace keeping mission in the country without first seeking the consent of the government.
In a press conference aired by the state-owned (SSBC), Michael Makuei Lueth, Information Minister said “This renewal is not acceptable. It is an unfair decision because the government was not consulted”
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) extended, on Thursday, the mandate of the U.N. peacekeeping mission in South Sudan until March 15, 2019. The UN maintains the 17,000 troops there, which includes a regional protection force of up to 4,000 troops and 2,101 international police personnel.
The South Sudan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Joseph Moum Majak, told the UN Security Council that South Sudan welcomes although not consulted welcomes the renewal of the UN peace keeping mission in the country.
