Feb 18th, 2018(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM-IO Youth League is enraged by the regime’s recent sentencing of James Gatdet Dak, a former press secretary of SPLM/SPLA-IO Chairman and Commander-In-Chief, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.

According to the Opposition’s Youth League Chairman, Mr. Puot Kang Chol, Gatdet’s sentencing has angered majority of South Sudanese arguing that Gatdet is a victim of the regime’s long-cherished injustice.

“This death sentence has not only angered  the opposition, but also driven the entire South Sudan to the verge of despair because Mr. Gatdet is a victim of the government long-cherished injustice.” Said the Youth League chairman, Puot Kang Chol.

The armed opposition believes that after Gatdet was kidnapped by Kenyans authorities and transferred to Juba he had been immured in a frightful dungeon for nearly a year without access to a lawyer and subjected to torture and all sorts of mental anxieties before he appeared in the Court.

“Knowing the prejudice and enmity the government have against Mr. Gatdet, the trial was unfair, cruel and against the human’s right laws. The whole process was a farce and worthy of world condemnation.” Kang continued.

Mr. Kang calls on the international community, TROIKA, EU and AU to intervene on Gatdet’s case and help to set him free unconditionally.

“We entreat the IGAD, AU, TROIKA, EU  and international community to adopt sentiments that are fitting in this particular case, quash the death sentence and caution the government to set James Gatdet free unconditionally.” He added.

Many critics and observers, including government’s supporters, believe that Mr. Gatdet’s death sentence is politically motivated and the verdict was decided by the strength of his accusers’ claws, and not by the rule of law.

“The IGAD, AU and World leaders should intervene in this situation and stop human rights being exposed to the scorn of dictators. The ruin and dishonor of justice must be averted.” Puot Kang emphasizes!
