BREAKING NEWS: Senior Generals and Hundreds of Troops Defect From Northern Bhar el Ghazal To SPLM/A(IO)
Feb 06, 2018(Nyamilepedia) —– A group of senior military generals and hundreds of troops have allegedly defected and declared their allegiances to the armed Opposition, SPLM/A(IO), under the leadership of the country’s Former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon.
According to a press declaration extended to Nyamilepedia, the new defection is led by a notorious Major General Achuil Lual Achuil and other senior military generals who claim to command a force of over 800 troops from Bhar el Ghazal region.
Major Gen. Achuil Lual Achuil, was the Deputy Commander to Lt. Gen Dau Aturjong Nyuol who once defected to SPLM/A(IO) in 2014 but re-defected to Juba in July 2016.
In their press release, Maj. Gen. Achuil listed Brigadier General Robert Rol Lual, Brig Zechariah Ngor Kuol, Brig John Akok Majok, Brig Simon Deng Deng and Brigadier Paulino Atak Anei and many Colonels as the officers who are in charge of his army.
Maj. Gen. Achuil said his forces are stationed in barracks across Bhar el Ghazal regions with general headquarters in Meirem and Mujlet in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
Gen. Achuil, whose defection emerged as South Sudanese leaders resume peace talks in Addis Ababa, cautions that his troops are obeying the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed in December last year.
“We are here and here to stay. We will not attack anybody as per Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed on December 21st, 2017 but we are ready to defense ourselves and our people should any group tries to terrorize us.” Said Maj. Gen. Achuil Lual.
Gen. Achuil threatens that his forces will overrun Warrap and Aweil should revitalization peace process fails in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this time.
“We have over 1200 troops who are ready to overrun Warrap because that is the language Salva Kiir will understand better. We are only respecting peace talks in Addis Ababa, our men and women in uniform are ready for any eventuality.” Said Gen. Achuil in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia
“We believe in giving peace a second chance but Juba is full of warmongers. We are pushed out again and we are proud of our decision to stand with our people at time of a greater need” He continued.
Gen. Achuil calls on youth from Norther Bhar el Ghazal and other parts of the country to take up arms and defend themselves, their property and people from what he calls a “gang-terrorist organization” led by an “incompetent president” Salva Kiir Mayardit.
