Jan 24, 2018(Nyamilepedia) —– At least one woman and young tenanger were allegedly raped and shot at when they tried to resist the South Sudan army officials at Lui, Secondary School in Lui town.

According to local residents the incident happened on January 20, 2018, when a group of South Sudan Government Army and militias, who were stationed at Lui Secondary School, went to Malakia village, raped one woman and a young girl, and then short the same woman at the leg.

According to a member of Anglican church, who spoke to Nyamilepedia, the community has now recovered the two women and rushed them to Lui Civil Hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment.

“It is worth mentioning that on 4th June 2017, South Sudan Government Army went to the house ofHenry Dolingwa at Payi village, just few kilometers outside Mundri town. Three armed soldiers raped the granddaughter of Henry Dolingwa (Name withheld for security reasons) who is about 18 years old.” Said a local resident whose name is withheld on security grounds.

“It is worth mentioning that Henry Dolingwa is a blind man and an evangelist in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan, Diocese of Lui, who relied on the assistance of his raped granddaughter all the time.” the local resident continued.

The local residents believe that the governor of Amadi state, who is loyal to president Kiir, was informed, however, he was unable to intervene.

“This case was reported to the Governor of Amadi State Col. Joseph Ngere but no action was taken.” The resident says.

“I would like to condemn these incidents in the strongest terms and ask the South Sudan government military stationed at Lui Secondary School to stop such human rights violations with immediate effect.” the elderly resident continued.

South Sudan conflict has witnessed many cases of rapes and other serious violations of human rights, however, the region and the international community has done very little to impose their several warnings against such violations.

In other reports, U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley said Wednesday the United States is giving up on South Sudan’s president calling him unfit and incompetent.

“The time has come to acknowledge the hard reality that the leaders of South Sudan are not just failing their people, they are betraying them,” Haley said.

“The government of South Sudan is increasingly proving itself to be an unfit partner for this council and any country seeking peace and security for the people of South Sudan,” Haley added.

Ambassador Haley went on to condemn violations of human rights in the young war-torn African country.

U.N. peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix  has also condemned “graves abuses” and warns that the international community and the region will not “continue to tolerate” violations of COH and impunity.

“The South Sudanese parties must realize that the international community and the region will not continue to tolerate agreements being signed, only to be violated in total impunity,” Lacroix said.

“The gravity of conflict-related sexual violence is deplorable and constitutes an emergency in its own right,” He continued.
