December 13, 2017(Kampala) —- The Executive Director of International Youth for Africa (IYA), Ter Manyang Gatwech, calls on South Sudan Government and opposition groups to find a possible solution to end the civil war, silence guns and establizes security for the country.

Ter also calls on the government to intervene in Lakes region of Western Lakes, Gok, and Eastern Lakes in which over two hundred people have died within the last one week following intra-tribal conflict within the Dinka sub-stribes of Western Lakes state.

Ter said “IYA is indeed concerned and we do mourn for such tragic death of our members, we condemn such barbaric acts of clan classes, interethnic fights occurring within our newly born state. Such events I may compare them to a family without a family head where children are fighting among themselves. So does our government cater or mind for its own people?”

Mr. Manyang questions who arm these tribes and allow them to fight each other.

“Or is able to defend and protect. If so where do these boys get such guns to terrorize or who arms these militia tribes? The government should answer and find the solution than to wait for IGAD, AU or USA/UN.” Ter continued.

“It’s indeed shocking to hear or to read this, we are tired of wars, we need; peace, freedom, justice and economic development. So we need a paradigm shift from the period of unrest to a period of peace and tranquility as other members of the world no just empowering the youth to war but for social and economic development.” He adds.

The IYA director reminds the citizens, who are fortunate to have maintained their homes for the last 4 years, that life in refugees’ camp is not fun.

“So where are our people going as a result of displacement because of fear, it is really hard to live as a refugee in camps as we see our brothers and sisters moving on carrying own sacks in search for help or refugee. Indeed God save South Sudan! Ter said.

Questioning the effectiveness of President Kiiir’s “state of emergency”, which he recently declared on Lakes State, Ter proposes that the regime must have a better action plan to deal with all ethnic feuds in the country.

“This tribal or clan clash is not the first of its kind in South Sudan, recent were even clashes in Jonglei State between Dinka,Murle and Nuer tribes. So the Government needs an action plan not just declaration of state of emergency and people are tired of words but need action done and an everlasting solution in the country. ” He said,

“We pray by God’s grace that unity, love and peace may come in our country and that the leaders may one day realize that innocent people of South Sudan need to live a secure and peaceful State. “Ter concludes.
