kenya-election

Sept 1, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— Kenyan Supreme Court has nullified the results of August 8th election, which put Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta as a winning candidate.

The session which was shared by David Kenani Maraga, the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, was dissented by two judges, however, the ruling of the majority has already nullified the recent election.

Based on Kenyan’s constitution, the judges ordered a more strict election to be held within 60 days. Whether the next election will be done electronically or manually remains to be seen.

This decision was highly applauded by Mr. Odinga’s  National Super Alliance(NASA) supporters and left Uhuru-Ruto’s Jubilee party in agony.

The election results which put Uhuru Kenyatta consistently ahead of his main rival, Raila Odinga, throughout the election, with significant majority was nullified on the ground that the previous elections were not conducted in accordance with the law of the land.

According to James Orengo, a senior lawyer who led lawyers on the Opposition(NASA) side, “this will be the first time in the African continent for election results to be nullified”.

Justice Orengo said “impunity must be punished” and the recent electoral commission(IEBC) must be closely scrutinized before the next election.

The NASA flag bearer, Mr. Odinga, reiterates that “for the first time in the African democratization, a ruling has been made”.

Odinga thanks his colleagues, lawyers and young people who inspired this historic judgement and said that the members of the electoral commission who committed irregularities and illegalities “belongs to jail”.
