Huge Defection Hits Bhar el Ghazal Region As Officials and Generals Join Riek Machar
July 29, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— Just a few weeks after South Sudan’s incumbent, president Salva Kiir, who is struggling to restore security calamity in the war-torn nation, declares a new state of emergency in parts of Bhar el Ghazal region in attempt to contain deteriorating security, more political and military leaders have called it enough and now join rebellion under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny, chairman and commander-in-chief of SPLM/A in Opposition.
The politicians and senior military leaders are led by the former Bahr Al-Ghazal Caucus Hon. Mustafa Yousef Kubsour.
Yousef is a former member of the National Council and member of the Executive Committee of National Democratic Movement/ Army (NDM/A) – now shifting his allegiance and pledging loyalty to the SPLM/A – IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
According to a declaration received by Nyamilepedia Press team, the block consists of political and military leaders and sectors of women and youth from Bhar el Ghazal region comprising of Major General Aboud Karama Tirab, Deputy Sector Commander of Bahr al-Ghazal, Brigadier General Malgrate Thomas, Brigadier General Sebit Ali Kabu Tambura, Thereza Majok Mathiang, member of the National Council and member of the Executive Committee, Issa Abdulrahman Fartal, member of the National Council and others.
The declaration was warmly received by politicians like Sultan Angelo Bak Malual bak, who has tendered his resignation and declares his allegiance to SPLM/A in Opposition under the leadership of Dr. Machar.
Bak hails from Northern Bahr al-Ghazal State, a state that has witnessed active rebellion since May, 2017, following sacking and detention of the former Chief of Staff and former Governor of Northern Bhar el Ghazal state, Gen. Paul Malong Awan.
Despite full blown conflict in Upper Nile and Equatoria, Bhar el Ghazal, the home region of President Salva Kiir, has been relatively calm for the past three years, however, a huge population from here has been displaced by hunger and famine.
South Sudan conflict has continued to worsen since Machar’s forced expulsion from the capital last July although Mr. Kiir and his allies claim to be implementing the truce.
In other reports, fighting continued in Northern Upper Nile, Unity State and Kajo-Keji, along South Sudan-Uganda border, between forces loyal to president Kiir and SPLA in Opposition.
