October 15, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— The SPLM/A in Opposition under the leadership of South Sudan’s ousted First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, has cleared many areas, in Upper Nile, from the government’s forces in the past few days.

SPLM/A-IO General, who chose to be anonymous because he is not authorized to speak on behalf of SPLA-IO spokesperson, says his forces are in full control of Jalhak, Doleib Hill, Warjwok, Detang and Lelo of Upper Nile State.

SPLA-IO General under Machar’s camp alleged that their forces were constantly “harassed” by forces loyal to President Salva Kiir.

The SPLA-IO General claimed they militarily acted in self-defence and they are determined to eliminate the harassment by capturing several areas under the government’s control.

While the number of casualties from both sides of the conflict is not established, the spokesmen of two conflicting armies could not be reached for comment.

In Equatoria, the SPLA-IO has claimed to have captured Lanya in Central Equatoria, cutting off Yei from Juba.

Incidents of armed struggle along Juba-Yei road and Juba-Nimuli road have been witnessed on daily basis, but such incidents were described by the government as “bandit activities”, a statement going opposite to the popular belief that the forces along the mentioned roads are SPLA-IO fighting forces.

Machar, in exclusive interview with VOA from South Africa on Thursday, said he is not “fighting a new war, Salva Kiir already started the war” and he’s fighting to stop Kiir’s onslaught.
