Dear Sir,

Acting First Vice President, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, who replaced FVP Dr. Riek Machar Teny could lose his new positions if the IGAD and UNSC impose South Sudan implementation(Photo: file)

Sept 07, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Having heard from you through TVC news/ media today that IGAD has mandated you to work along with the splinter group of SPLA/M IO under Taban Deng Gai and that you will not work with Dr. Riek Machar until he renounces violence and declares ceasefire, I am now worried that there will be no peace in South Sudan and South Sudan will soon disintegrate due to the following reasons:-

  1. General Taban Deng Gai is currently residing in Juba where there are no SPLA/M IO forces that he commands
  2. General Taban Deng Gai has already resigned his position as Chief Mediator of SPLA/M IO
  3. General Taban Deng Gai has already been dismissed by Dr. Riek Machar
  4. All SPLA/M IO forces pay their allegiance to Dr. Riek Machar

On the other hand, Dr. Riek Machar is still

  1. The legitimate Chairman and Commander In Chief of SPLA/M IO Forces
  2. The legitimate First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan
  3. A key player in the implementation of the signed peace agreement
  4. In full control of SPLA/M IO forces
  5. The appointment of Taban Deng Gai has been declared illegal by the IGAD COMMUNIQUE

WAYFORWARD

I encourage you to make all arrangement to welcome Dr. Riek Machar back to Juba as First Vice President as soon as the Regional Force is deployed, so that he can join hands with President Salva Kirr in implementing the signed peace agreement to the letter and spirit, with new timeframe and without any further delay.

This is my humble advice.

Best regards

Of course, this is the only way forward. But not the US special envoy booth has put his booth in his mouth and further complicates the situation.

US should read the ARCISS document and act accordingly.
Very clear there how the succession of the FVP is managed, very clear also of course that what transpired with Taban was against the written ARCISS document.

In contract negotiations, and implementation of agreements, you must stick to the written word. If you don’t, then what is the point of any agreements?

Shameful behavior of the US, or is it just Booths flappy moth that got the better of him?
