South Sudan: Dr. Machar To Convene a Press Conference In a Neighboring Country
August 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Welcoming the First Vice President, who has been at large for more than a month, the leadership of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition announced a safe relocation of Dr. Riek Machar Teny to a neigbhoring country that is yet to be specified.
According to the chairman of National Committee for Information and Public Relations, Mabior Garang de Mabior, Dr. Machar has safety arrived at a neighboring country today following an attempt on his life last month in Juba.
“The Leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (In Opposition) would like to announce to the people of South Sudan, the Region and the World, that: following the botched attempt to assassinate the legitimate First Vice President (FVP) – Dr. Riek Mahar Teny-Dhuorgon and abrogate the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS), the FVP has now been safely evacuated to a safe country within the region.” Said Mabior Garang de Mabior.

The First Vice President is now expected to convene a press conference to air his position on major events impacting the peace agreement in the country.
“The legitimate First Vice President who is also the Chairman and Commander in Chief SPLM/SPLA Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhuorgon will hold a press conference within the next twenty-four (24) hours.” Mabior said.
The chairman has been in limited communication with the leaders in the region and members of the International Community over deployment of regional intervention force in South Sudan.
According to Mabior Garang de Mabior, the opposition fully support the resolution of the UN Security Council to deploy 4000 regional troops in the country to protect civilians and national installations from the warring parties.
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) would also like to take this opportunity to express our full commitment to the full implementation of the ARCISS and to the adoption of the UNSC Resolution 2304 as a necessary precondition for the return of the legitimate FVP to Juba and the return to the implementation of the ARCISS in letter and spirit.” Mabior said.
Machar called for deployment of the regional troops as a precondition for his return to Juba to implement the peace agreement in letter and spirit with his arch rival, President Salva Kiir.
For the last one month, Kiir has felt comfortable in the arms of his new ally, Taban Deng Gai, who has offered to give up major components of the peace agreement in favor of Kiir’s status quo.
Unlike Machar, Taban has shown huge support for Salva Kiir’s demands for one army, 28 states and unilateral appointment of the speaker of the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
Although Taban has no army to integrate to Kiir’s SPLA, the two have agreed to integrate their forces as soon as possible.
Taban has also opposed the deployment of a regional troops in the country, as Salva Kiir previously hinted, however, Kiir’s government is now accepting the 4000 troops with “reservations”.
