Traffic Incident Leaves 1 Dead on South Sudan’s Aweil-Nyamlel Road

June 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- Aweil State Traffic police officials announced this week that one pedestrian has been killed by a public bus which departed from Aweil at late hours Sunday on its way to Nyamlel, a town in the newly proposed Lol State.

The police has arrested the bus driver, and freed all travelers on the ban.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia, the Aweil State Director of Traffic Police, Colonel Diing Reech confirms the incident saying that it was unintentionally caused by panic.

He reveals that the act occurred when the bus collided with migrating livestock.

“The event arose when a public transport bus departed from Aweil to Nyamlel on Sunday night. The bus collided with moving herds when it   lost control rolling on the victim,’’ says Aweil Traffic Police Chief.

The deceased was killed after the car driver tried to pass by herds of cow which occupied the road, unfortunately, the car lost control and rolled over, killing a pedestrain who was crossing the road.

The body is said to have been taken by the family of the late for burial the following day.

Nyamilepedia tried to call the family to comment on the matter, but family members were unable to be reached.

The bus, according to the Traffic officer, did not capsized and all the passengers arrived in Nyamlel safely.

“The bus did not capsize, all travelers were arrived in Nyamlel safely.” He said.

The colonel urges all drivers to drive slowly and pay attention on road to avoid such traffic event.

“ I call on all drivers to drive little by little, I want them also to be careful when driving so that they will shun from matters like this,” Diing Reech warns drivers to respect traffic rules.

The car driver, according to the Traffic police chief, has been arrested at Nyamlel Police station, adding that investigations are ongoing because authorities want to know how exactly the accident occured.
