April 30, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– The chief negotiator of SPLM/SPLA in opposition , Gen. Taban Deng Gai, has resigned.

The former Governor of Unity State officially resigns his position as the Chief Negotiator for SPLM/SPLA-IO this week as the warring parties establish a Transitional Government of National Unity.

Gen. Taban will serve in the new government as a cabinet Minister for Mining along side 29 other ministers.

His resignation, submitted to First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, and CCed to Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, was highly expected given that the warring parties will now resolve the remaining outstanding issues through transitional parliament, transitional Council of Ministers and other mechanisms as outlined in the Agreement of Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan(ARCISS).

Gen. Taban fled Juba in December 2013. For nearly three years, he served as the Chief negotiator for the armed opposition.

He led the SPLM/SPLA-IO advance team to Juba to prepare grounds for the return of SPLM/SPLA-IO leadership and to expedite the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity.

What is in Taban’s mind ? What cause him to resign? Is there any motive behind that? Does he think the job is done now or just he wants to destroy the agreement in favour of the government? It is an absurd idea when you think about this as contentious issues remain to be discussed after the formation of the government national unity? Who will support the documents that he signed during the peace negotiations? If he really resigned then there must be a hidden agenda in his mind? In fact, his help still needed as many issues remain unresolved specially the 28 states which is a violation of peace agreement signed last year .
