JMEC Welcomes IO Forces To the Capital
March 29, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission(JMEC) welcomes the forces of SPLA/SPLA in opposition to the capital after more than two years of intensive fighting in many parts of the country.
According to JMEC press release, signed by Aly Verjee, the commission welcomes the arrival of the first two platoons of SPLM/SPLA [IO] in accordance with the ARCISS.
Speaking at JMEC meeting on March 24th, the chairman of JMEC, President Festus G. Mogae confirmed that the hurdles that delayed the arrival of the armed opposition and delayed the arrival of Dr. Machar have all been resolved.
“The obstacles that have impeded the arrival of 1370 SPLA [IO] troops to Juba have been overcome. I echo what the Parties have themselves said: there are no remaining difficulties in return of the First Vice President-designate and the formation of the new Transitional Government of National Unity” Said Festus G. Mogae.
During his recent public briefing in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the First Vice President also assured the South Sudanese in Kenya that he and his colleagues must return to the capital within the next 10 days to save the country from collapsing.
South Sudan, a young country that had one of the strongest currency and prospering 3 years a go, is now collapsing at the hands of its liberators. To many, the only hope is now the return of the former Vice President to expedite the formation of a new transitional government of national unity.
According to JMEC, a series of flights by the United Nations and charter aircraft will transport the remaining troops in the coming days.
“Multiple rotations of aircraft are planned until the movement is complete” JMEC assures.
In other reports, officials of SPLM [IO] in Juba under the leadership of Gen. Taban Deng Gai, the Chief negotiator, visited Jebel Kunjur today to see the rehabilitation process of what would soon be the SPLA-IO military headquarters.
