Jan 28, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- A prominent member of United Democratic Front Party, Mr. Kuach Char, has defected to SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Mr. Kuach Char announced his unexpected defection in a celebration ceremony held in Old Fangak town on 27th January 2016. Mr. Char said he was an arch adversary of the SPLM before December 15 2013 incident, because the SPLM’s vision in Juba by then was so ambiguous. That was why he couldn’t like and join the SPLM.

“As you may all know, I was an arch opponent of the SPLM because its vision and deeds were all deadly or contrary to South Sudanese people’s interests. That was the reason why I was against the SPLM Party. However, on December 15 2013 the SPLM party fought within itself—SPLM’s dictators against democrats. As a result the SPLM/A-IO came into being with the same objectives, the UDF was struggling to achieve in South Sudan.

The SPLM-IO sprung up to establish a Democratic South Sudan with transparency, freedoms, equality for all, justice and rule of law. Therefore, today I want to declare in front of you that I have joined the SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny. And that I will serve the people of this state through the SPLM/A-IO leads by H: E. Johnson Kuol Gai who is the SPLM/A-IO’s chairperson in the state. So let me now say: SPLM/A-IO Oyee! SPLM/A-IO Oyee! SPLM/A-IO Oyee! This is the right time for me to join the SPLM-I-O under the Leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny. To continue the fight against the genocidal regime based in Juba or the SPLM Juba, all democratic leaders and citizens must unite to defeat the tyrants”.

A former UDF’s state leader, Mr. Kuach, said he has been appointed by the Governor, Gen.Johnson Kuol Gai to lead the state committee for peace and reconciliation. He said he unconditionally accepted the appointment to chair the committee. “I was asked this year, since I was still the UDF party’s member, by the Deputy Governor who has now become the Governor to chair Peace and Reconciliation Committee in Phow state. I unconditionally accepted his offer; I am now leading and serving the state people under his leadership as Peace and Reconciliation Committee’s Chairperson. I cannot refuse to serve the South Sudanese people because they are my own people and dedicated myself to serve them that was why I decided to stood in parliamentary elections in 2010”. Mr. Char concluded his speech delivered in Old Fangak town freedom square.

Mr. Dak Maluit, the SPLM-IO-Fangak’s acting Secretary instantly welcomed Mr. Kuack Char’s defection from UDF to SPLM-IO party. Saying he warmly welcomed on behalf of the SPLM-IO, the defection of Hon. Kuach Char and that the party is ready to work together with the new member. “On behalf of the SPLM-IO I can welcome your coming to our big party. Your defection Gatchar was long overdue so you’re most welcome to SPLM-IO, let’s serve our people together”.

United Democratic Front [UDF] party was formed in late 1990s; its first Chairman was Justice Peter A. Sule. In 2010 Mr. Kuach Char was chosen as UDF Fangak County’s candidate in parliamentarian general elections. Char stood against SPLM candidate, Mr. David Gai Chan as well as against others political parties’ candidates who were standing as their parties’ lists candidates for the same seat going to Juba.

During the elections in 2010 especially when the last results were about to be announced Mr. Kuach Char along with NCP, SPLM-DC, UDSF’s candidates plus independent candidates were all nearly beaten to death by the SPLA in New Fangak town ( Phom El Zaref—the HQrs of Fangak County) with order which was said came from the above. Eyes witnesses, would latter said several oppositions and independent candidates in Fangak County won the elections but the order was issued so that there could be a way to have votes stolen.
