SPLM Chapter in Tennessee Condems Salva Kiir’s 28 Tribal States
By Michael Gatwec Joak ,
Dec 30, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- In support of our Chairman Dr. Riek Machar’s condemnation of the creation of 28 states, on behave of our members, friends, well-wishers, sympathizers, The office of SPLM-IO in State of Tennessee do hereby denounce the creation of 28 states and the subsequent dissolution of the 10 states by Salva Kiir through executive decree on Christmas Eve. This decree is a clear violation of Compromise Peace Agreement signed in August of this year. The peace agreement is based on 10 current states and dissolving them will put this fragile peace deal in jeopardy.
The SPLM-IO is abiding by the agreement as demonstrated by the present of the advance team in Juba. They are trying their absolute best to implement the deal despites all the difficulties that come with it. We are profoundly aware of the suffering of our people and peace is the only way to end their suffering. Kiir has violated the peace agreement on many occasions, but this one should be an exception, we are too close to finish line to turn back to full scale war.
Furthermore, Kiir and his negotiation team rejected SPLM-IO’s proposal to include the creation of more states into the peace agreement during the negotiation, why NOW? Kiir should now propose the creation of more states to Joint Monitoring Evaluation Commission (JMEC) if he truly believes additional states is beneficial to South Sudanese. This one man show is what plunged the nation into this quagmire. His practice of unilateral decisions must cease for South Sudanese to realize the fruits of our liberation. Bye the way, we are now peace partners.
We are pleading to JMEC, IGAD+, Troika and other peace partner to implement the Compromise Peace Agreement base on 10 states as it was originally intended. If Kiir will not rescinds his 28 states decision, the above mention partners should leverage all the tools at their disposal to make sure peace is fully implemented. The scenes of our people living in exile, living in tents, living in UNMISS protection sites is disheartening. They would love to go back to their homes and rebuild their shattered lives and the only thing standing between them and that aim is Salva Kiir. Let us all make him see peace is the only solution to anguishes in South Sudan.
