Nov 16, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- The leadership of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition, “deeply alarmed and concerned”, calls on partners in peace to investigate the leaders of allied militia, COBRA-IG and “SSRA”, for the latest attacks on civilians in Jonglei state.

According to Mabior Garang de Mabior, the SPLM/SPLA [IO] Committee Chairman of Information and Public Relations, “certain known politicians” are believed to have organized the attacks on civilians to spoil the peace agreement between the main warring parties.

“The Movement urges our partners in peace to specifically investigate allegations that these forces have been armed and recruited out of the UNMISS POC site in Bor (by certain known politicians)” Mabior said.

“The leadership of the Movement also condemns these cowardly acts of violence intended to divert attention from the peace process.” he continued.

Mabior named renegade Brigadier Lul Ruai and the recently promoted Maj. Gen. David Yau Yau as possible organizers of the attack on Maar and Paker Payams in Twich East County.

Mabior was responding to accusations from the government side which claims that the attack might have been carried out by the SPLA-IO.

“The SPLM/SPLA (In Opposition) calls on our partners in peace to investigate these crimes, before making baseless accusations for political gain.” Mabior.

Although ethnic Murle, who have attacked the area occasionally, were accused by the local population for the attack, unconfirmed evidence claims that at least one attacker with “forehead marks” similar to those of Nuer men was killed in the attack.

According to critics, the alliance of Gen. Lul Ruai and Lt. Gen. Yau Yau could be responsible for the attack.

Although the SPLM/SPLA–IO rubbishes claims of responsibility, the allied militia generals are yet to response to the accusations.

Mabior calls on Salva Kiir government to speedily implement the peace agreement and end the suffering of South Sudanese people.

“The Movement further calls on the Salva Kiir Administration to quickly implement the peace agreement, and end the suffering of our people. The Movement encourages members, and the people of South Sudan in general to focus on the agreement before us; and, not to allow the negative forces across the political divide to derail the peace process.” Mabior said.
