IGAD summit has commended the recommitment by the two leaders, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan (RSS) and Dr. Riek Machar, former Vice President of the RSS and Leader of the SPLM/A-In Opposition, to end the war and fully engaging in the ongoing peace process as per the 9 May 2014 Agreement to Resolve the Crisis in South Sudan;

Addis Ababa, July 24, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Today on the 24th July 2015, the IGAD Special Envoys handed over the Proposed Compromise Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, which is the outcome of the extensive negotiations South Sudanese Parties and Stakeholders have been undertaking since the IGAD mediated negotiations that began in January 2014, to the South Sudanese Parties and Stakeholders in the presence of the IGAD-PLUS Special Envoys and Representatives.

This was preceded by the IGAD-PLUS Consultation that was held from 21 to 23 July 2015, during which the IGAD–PLUS Special Envoys and Representatives unanimously endorsed the Proposed Compromise Agreement and expressed their full support for its implementation.

The South Sudanese Parties and Stakeholders are now expected to go back and consult with their respective leadership and resume negotiations on 5th August 2015 here in Addis Ababa.
