June 28, 2015 (Nyamilepedia) — Members of South Sudan security forces, under the troubled South Sudan President, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, have stormed the empty family house of defected and renege Major general, Martin Kenyi Taratizio, in the capital city Juba, and looted it flatly.
According to reliable sources in uniform, the Security Forces had direct orders and an official authorization from the “top leadership”.
In November 2014, the president warned the Major. General to put down his guns and re-join his government or risk losing his bloc of property, which the president estimated to be 50 houses in the country.
Quoted in multiple media reports, the president publicly warns that “the bush belongs to Nuer and the Dinka, not Equatorians”, and furthered that the houses of the disgruntled general would be confiscated or demolished by the regimes if he joins the rebels of Riek Machar.
According to neighbors, who reached out to our correspondent in Juba, the government ordered “heavy deployments of the army around Juba last 48 hours”
“We didn’t expect this, we were shocked and dismayed with the amount of destruction cause by the army in the Capital Juba.” Said a neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to fear of reprisal.
“The armies’ hostilities to the civilian has reached to unbearable level” reported another eye witness.
“this is particularly so against those who have opposing view to that of president Salva Kiir, their properties have been subjected to demolition to give harsh punishment to the owners.” He added,
The neighbors recall that no one is safe in the national capital, except the president and his inner circle.
“ These days the only ones who feel safe in the Capital of the people is Kiir and his kin, every one else is a target to the tribal security organs” she repeated.
Although the government forces have arrested chiefs and civilians accused of sheltering Maj. Gen. Martin Kenyi earlier this year, it is yet to be determined what prompted the national security to trespass Martin kenyi’s property at this particular time.
Gen. Kenyi joined the Opposition under the former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, more than eight months ago and was promoted to various position, including the deputy chief of staff for logistic in the opposition forces.
Following the latest disagreement between president Salva Kiir and Dr. Machar in Nairobi despite the imminent calls for party reunification, and the destruction of property of members of SPLM in Opposition, the analysts question the seriousness of Salva Kiir government in calling for peace before July, 2015.
“The question is if the Juba-led SPLA/M under the direct leadership of President Kiir is serious in implementation of Arusha agreement for unification of SPLM, why then continues to carry out destruction on properties of the members of armed opposition?” said A.Olweny, who testified on this report.
“Why has Kiir unfroze the accounts of one of the most corrupt Politicians who have taken millions from the country’s coffers, and have continued to architect a plan to remove Kiir from his seat, and now are welcomed and reinstated in the their thrones of corruptions but yet target those who necessarily demand for an equal government of the people?” he continued.
In accordance with the government led SPLM Reunification, Salva Kiir administration has accepted back and reinstated members of former detainees who were accused in December to be the root causes of the conflict.
The detainees were charged with treason in connection to a fabricated coup that collapsed due to lack of evidence.
Observers, who witnessed the looting of the renegade’s property in Juba, question why the government would reward the politicians that were charged with treason but destroy the property of disgruntled generals and politicians.
“The world should not be surprised to see kiir has carried ethnic cleaning in the Capital city and the country against non Dinka more specifically the Nuer but also Equatorians who have switched site due to their discontentment in Kiir’s leadership, but now war of destruction and looting has been brought on their properties to punish indirectly, yet awards and rewards are the price given to the most corrupt officials formally known as the “ G10” after their return to the country. Their leader was said to have been awarded a staggering 17 Million US dollars to get him rejoin Juba SPLM, this at the time our country is at the verge of economic collapse?” Olweny reiterates.
According to Article 17 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights section I &II, destruction and deprivation of properties of individual, is defined as property war, and the right to own property is inscribed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10-1948. The destruction of properties during and after the war constitute to abuse of fundamental rights of every human being, stated as:
(1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
(2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.
As constituted, properties should not be targeted whenever their owners switch their allegiance or have different political views than that of the ruling party.
“So what has happened to Martin Kenyi family house, and many other destruction of the personal properties in the country by the warring parties more especially in safe places under the absolute control and command of the government including country’s capital city, seriously amounts to violation of Human Rights of the individuals. Of course it should be recalled, destruction of not only human lives but of properties was triggered by Kiir in Black December 2013 when Kiir unleashed death on the Nuer and Dr. Machar government house in Juba was bulldozed flat with over 20 lives of fellow South Sudanese quenched that night. Are we surprised by what monster our government has become?” Olweny explains.
