June 21, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, arrives this morning in Nairobi, Kenya, from Johannesburg, South Africa, where he attended the African Union’s summit.
According to reliable sources in the office of Dr. Riek Machar, the Chairman of the armed opposition will spend a few days in Nairobi meeting the leaders of the opposition and Kenyan leaders before he proceeds to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The source confirmed to our editorial that Machar is expected to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga and the former President, Daniel Torotich Arap Moi to discuss various peace initiatives to restore normalcy in the war-torn South Sudan.
According to Kenya Today reports, the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, met with the Tanzanian President, Jakaya Kikwete, two weeks ago in Tanzania to draft new peace initiatives to restore stability in South Sudan.
President Jakaya further held intensive sideline discussions with Machar in Johannesburg, SA, on possible peace resolutions in accordance with Arusha-SPLM Reunification agreement.
According to reliable sources in the opposition’s Nairobi office, who are not permitted to speak on behave of the chapter, Mr. Odinga has extended his call to meet with Dr. Machar on his return from Johannesburg.
Similar call was also made by the former President, Danial Arap Moi, who has been tasked by the newly formed South Sudan Council of Elders to convene the two warring principals on their behave.
Despite that the elders from the two major tribes have been bitterly divided by the conflict, the former President, Arap Moi, believes that their role in a locally driven peace initiative would be significant.
Dr. Machar will also be briefed by the Opposition’s humanitarian wing on their recent humanitarian tour overseas in USA, Canada and Australia, and also on the results of the Relief Organization for South Sudan(ROSS) Conference which ended yesterday in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
