Press Secretary Denies the Death of South Sudan President
June 12, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Speaking on multiple news outlets in South Sudan capital, Juba, Ateny Wek Ateny strongly denies the death of South Sudan’s troubled president, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.
“It’s the Khartoum based Arabic Daily Newspaper the Sudani and Alkarlaza that were alleging that the president was dead” The Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, told the Juba Based Miraya FM.
The Presidential Spokesman denies the widely spread allegation as a ” mere wishful thinking against the life of President Salva Kiir Mayardit”.
Ateny announces that the incumbent President Salva Kiir Mayardit is still alive and strong; alleging that the President has spent at least 9 hours yesterday in the office.
“The President is alive, the president is healthy [ …], yesterday at around six o’clock after the President stayed in the office for more than 9 hours from 9Am to 6pm, he went to another meeting” Ateny said
In spite that the president is expected to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, where the African leaders have been meeting for the last five days, Ateny confirms that Salva Kiir spent his Friday at home, in his office.
“And even this morning majority of us who were with him we went to him in his office at home” he added.
The news of deteriorating health of President Kiir started spreading upon his return from South Africa on medical visit earlier this month.
The president has collapsed a few times in Juba, and also while on diplomatic missions in Khartoum and Nairobi, Kenya.
According to various news outlets, Salva Kiir collapsed and nose bled during the last round of peace talks in Addis Ababa in March this year.
Leaked medical reports indicate that the president suffers from a liver infection, a report that Juba is yet to admit.
Allegedly due to poor health, President Salva Kiir delegated his Defense Minister, Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, to regional leaders’ summit in Kampala, Uganda, last week, a mission that spiked his health concerns.
It is yet to be verified if President Salva Kiir will attend or delegate a representative to attend the 25th Summit of African Heads of states and government, which has been ongoing since Monday in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Chairman and C-in-C of the armed Opposition, Dr. Reik Machar Teny, has joined the Summit yesterday.
Juba is deeply concern that the former Vice President, Dr. Machar, was invited to attend the continental heads of states and governments’ summit.
“In actual fact we have not been informed about the invitation given to Riek Machar to attend the AU Summit in South Africa. This is for heads of states, there is no space for a rebel leader to attend it. So we have not been informed about that” Ateny Wek concludes.
Reports from Johannesburg, SA, confirms that the AU’s Twenty Seventh (27th) Ordinary Session of the Executive Council today at Sandton International Conference Center (ICC) in Johannesburg, SA, has ended successfully.
The Summit will resume its final round on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 June 2015 with focus on the Twenty Fifth (25th) Ordinary Session of the African Union.
