Why President Kiir Should Now Concede Defeat and Resign
By Timothy Tot Chol,
Former MP and Deputy Chairman, Committee for Security and Defense,
National Assembly Juba,
June 02, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — In December 2013 and 2014 President Kiir and his big mouth Chief of Staff General Malong used to deceive themselves by making boastful statements that they would crush the SPLM/A – IO within three months. It is now more than a year and a half and none of their wishful dreams materialized. Instead Kiir and Malong are getting bloody nose blows in every front despite their massive support from their partner in crime Museveni of Uganda and the disgruntled war dogs of JEM and so-called SPLM-North. The latter criminals have abandoned their main objective of settling their issues with Khartoum and instead opted to be hired by Salva Kiir to fight on his behalf.
President Kiir lost many opportunities to peacefully resolve the current conflict with SPLM/A – IO and avoid his defeat and humiliation. In the IGAD mediated Peace Talks, the SPLM/A – IO made many outstanding compromises in their negotiations with Juba. It was our desire and at least to maintain the unity of our people and stop their suffering that we made those compromises. Contrary to our expectation, Kiir and his cohorts thought that we were weak and that it was just a matter of time they would defeat us.
In actual fact, in the first rounds of peace talks the position of the SPLM/A – IO was to accept peace that would not include Salva Kiir as president because he lost his legitimacy by killing thousands of citizens who voted for him and whom he targeted on the basis of ethnicity. Also we argued that Salva Kiir abetted corruption in which over $ 40 billion dollars were looted by his ministers and senior officials and failed to prevent these crimes.
Other crimes that he failed to prevent and were later found he had a hand in, were the murder of vocal journalists and political opponents. So the SPLM/A – IO did not see him as a credible leader who could champion the young nation’s return to prosperity and normalcy. The SPLM/A – IO made significant compromises in the areas of the leadership structure of the interim government and in the power sharing ratios in the last sessions of the Peace Talks. All these we made in the name of peace and unity of people.
With the support of some influential friends in the IGAD states leadership, President Kiir mistakenly thought he could dictate the terms of a peace agreement with the SPLM/A – IO. That was why he grew arrogant and rejected every proposal that we put in. Some times when confused by the complexities of negotiation, he would accept some proposals from the SPLM/A – IO but rejects them as soon as his plane lands in Juba airport!
The month of May is very unfriendly to President Kiir and his friend in crime Museveni. Museveni lost many forces in Wadakona and recently lost some fighter aircrafts. Salva’s forces are on the run in every front. In Equatoria which he thought were home of cowards, the historical town of Chukudum, in which the first ever SPLM/A Conference was held in 1994 was captured by the SPLM/A – IO gallant forces under the overall command of General Kenyi. Kiir’s southern gate of escape is now closed and new gains will surface soon. In Western Bahr El Ghazal – “Wau Naar” governor Tingwo and his forces are working day and night to see that their “naar” is felt by Kiir’s corrupt regime.
General Aturjok has already announced his arrival in Aweil and beyond. It was his arrival in the area that prompted the regime to unconstitutionally dismiss the acting governor and some of the state elected officials. In Jonglei the long awaited dry season offensive by the forces of Mathianganyor have already been defeated before reaching Pajut and there are indications that they cannot withstand the heat from Boor chaara guns and are thinking of pulling back to Panyigoor. In the mighty Upper Nile General Olony has secured Malakal the capital of the state and all rats have run underground and will be smoked out soon. Paloich, the centre of Kiir’s corruption and his governor Kun is now venerable and Kiir and Kun will have nowhere to steal next month.
In conclusion, president Kiir should now concede defeat and resign immediately otherwise he faces a disgraceful and humiliating defeat and death. I am sure he knows how dictators are treated in life and in death. President Kiir I am sure might have known what happened to his friend Gaddafi when he was captured humiliated and executed.
