March 11, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — An Mi26 Helicopter, which belongs to UN World Food Program, has caused an unintended destruction of property upon a faulty landing at Jiech Payam of Ayod County in Jonglei state on 10th March, 2015.

According to eye witnesses, the UN Helicopter blew up tukuls and triggered fire that consumed a local market and reduced the neighborhood to ashes.

According to Bishop Thomas Tut, who was on a church round trip from Lankien, Pagil, Nyanepal, Gorwai, Gul, Jiech and Juba, the helicopter was delivering medical supplies to over 25,000 IDPs in the area.

“The WFP helicopter was delivering medical supplies to over 25,000 IDPs and host community, which are badly in need. Medical supplies have never been delivered since 2014” Bishop Tut said.

Bishop Tut, who runs Christian Mission for Development(CMD) in the area, said the helicopter also destroyed facilities for the mission.

“School tents and WASH facilities set up by Christian Mission for Development (CMD) were also destroyed beyond repair by the same helicopter. This incident was unintended but it was not clear whether or not UN/WFP would compensate the damages caused.” Bishop Tut continued.

Despite the destruction, the local population was happy that no one was hurt during the incident, however, it is yet to be verified if the UN and WFP will compensate the individuals, whose property and tukuls were destroyed by the world’s body.

“We are organising emergency response now, we are going to meet UN agencies and NGOs share with them issue and how to respond especially those deal with emergency shelters and NFI/ES like IOM” The Episcopal Church Bishop said

The source confirmed that the Helicopter safely returned to Juba. Last month, a UN Helicopter carrying a member of Salva Kiir government and UN employees accidentally landed here in Jiech. The plane was allowed to return to Juba within the same day, however, the passengers were temporarily detained for two days.

WFP did not mean to destroy those shelters they are flying there for the needy, If compensation is done they will still WFP to intervene. Please think twice

UN should at least do something to those people in order to show them that UN did this unintended or otherwise, they will take it wrongly!
