Sept 17, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — A statement issued by the Ambassadors and Chargé d’Affaires that comprises of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Norway, the European Union, Germany and the Netherlands expresses grave concerns over the prevention of stakeholders by South Sudan government to travel to Addis Ababa to attend peace talks.

“We are concerned that some members of the political parties delegation have been prevented from traveling to join IGAD talks in Ethiopia to which they were invited by the IGAD mediators.” the statement reads.

The ambassadors urge Juba government to accord the politicians their freedoms of movement to travel to Addis Ababa to join other stakeholders in the negotiation process.

“This does not sit well with an inclusive and representative process that takes into account the views of all constituencies and all stakeholders. Preventing an individual from traveling may also violate his or her right to freedom of movement.” the ambassadors said.

The ambassadors, who are deeply “concerned about the political and humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, an entirely man-made catastrophe”, call on the leaders on both sides of the conflict to recognize the need for compromise, to put their people first and make peace a reality in the country.

South Sudan authority prevented five politicians that include the political parties’ leaders, Dr. Lam Akol, Ismail Suleiman Saeed, David William Tut, Albino John Lako and Sarah Nene Redento from boarding a flight to Addis Ababa, where peace talks resumed yesterday at Bahir Dar, capital of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Other stakeholders that comprises of members of SPLM-IO and SPLM-FPD condemn the act of SPLM-Juba that violates the freedoms of their counterparts and urge that the politicians be allowed to travel to Addis Ababa to join the mediation in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
