August 2, 2014 (Nyamilepedia) – Different civil Society Organizations who escaped the brutality of the regime and live in neighboring Countries condemned in the strongest term, the assassination attempted by the government on Deng Athuai in Juba on 1 August 2014.

The Chairman of South Sudan’s Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) Deng Athuai survived a shooting by  unknown gunman on Friday in Juba Capital.

Deng as well survived an assassination attempt of similar kind in 2011, when he was kidnapped, beaten and left unconscious near the riverside by the government security agents for speaking out against the government.

“This intimidation tactics by the government and its militias will not deter the civil society” said Puoch Riek Deng, the National Youth Union President.

He further said, this is a criminal act and abuse of human rights of individuals and the public for speaking out against government war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“The government turns Juba into slaughter house and graveyard”  Puoch said in a Statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

He lamented that “the government of Kiir has defiled the land of heroes and heroines by their unforgiving sins of mass murder, brutal killing, genocide, fornication, corruption and tribalism”.

Mr. Puoch has as well added that “the corrupt and tribal governing cliques in juba are like vultures hovering over South Sudan, looking for carcasses.”

Riek concludes that the Civil Society will continue to pray for quick healing of Chairman Athuai and his family during this critical times.
