South Sudan: Celebrating An Hijacked Sovereignty?
By brother Noah K. James
July 11, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — What did they celebrate when the country has lost thousands of lives at the orders of their “president”? What would you celebrate when your “army” may kill you for celebrating the same independence beyond 6pm on the independence eve?
What would you celebrate when populations are murdered to coerce and submit to dictatorship? What would you celebrate when the lands of the minor tribes and other vulnerable groups is alienated by one group that wants to be acknowledged as the “government”?
Weren’t they celebrating successful genocides, years of corruptions, tribalism, nepotism, resources grab, land grab, kokora-ism and hopes to establish dictatorship? Is this what other nations call independence? Help me understand!
Would other countries celebrate if their legitimate leaders turned missiles and tanks against the unarmed populations? Wasn’t this an act of terrorism?
What would you celebrate when children are buried in hundreds because an elected president is investing the national wealth in buying machine guns to kill those who would survive cholera and malnutrition? Is this what leaders are elected for?
Was Salva Kiir elected to sell his tribe? Was Salva Kiir elected to revenge against the Nuer? Is that the victory they celebrated? Is this what you would call independent?
What would you celebrate when nearly half of the population is still dying in refugee camps, swamps and UNMISS camps?
What would you celebrate when your government bombs the innocent civilians who elected him to power? What would you celebrate when you president use clusters bombs to erase part of the population?
What would you celebrate when only the president’s home region has access to education, health care and security? What would you celebrate when only one tribe calls itself a government?
Would you celebrate if another tribe takes the power today to revenge against their historic enemies? Is this what you would recognize as a government?
What would you celebrate when the country is not sovereign and independent? Is South Sudan independent? How can you claim to be independent when your citizens are spoon-fed and protected by the United Nations?
What would you celebrate when your country is officially led by foreigners like dictator Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, who maimed people, rape and kill in the name of LRA? Don’t you think the Nuer are raped, killed and burned in the name of Riek Machar?
What would you celebrate when your national resources end up in Uganda and China at the expense of a dying population within Juba? What would you celebrate when the government has destroyed the country without delivering any services?
What would you celebrate when the martyrs are betrayed by their own brothers who turned their worst enemies upon their death? Is that the reason only Museveni attended the independence anniversary? Were they celebrating the death of our heroes and heroines? Is this what they died for?
What can you celebrate when the men and women who brought you this independent are not celebrating the independent in the country they championed its independence? What independent can you claim when 1.5 millions are externally and internally displaced?
What independent can you claim when the international community is donating $1.5 billions to feed your people yet your “government” is investing all its billions of dollars in purchasing anti-tanks and anti-aircraft to fight an ethnic civil war ?
Are they still celebrating?
