July 1, 2014(Nyamilepedia) –The South Sudanese capital, Juba, is witnessing yet another heavy fighting at the main military barracks, which spread to the residential areas, as the country anticipate its 3rd independent anniversary.

Heavy fighting, which could be independently verified from multiple sources, resumed in the South Sudan capital, Juba, at the late hour of July 1st, 2014.

Sources from various parts of Juba believe that the fighting started at the army headquarters’ residential areas, New Site but later spiral to main barrack, Bilpham, and its outskirts.

“Juba is on fire again. It started a few hours ago at New Site but die down. Now it is continuing again at Bilpham. Salva Kiir soldiers want to arrest Equatorians Generals because they declared war against the people of Equatoria. This is not surprising at all because they did it to Nuer population many times in the country at our watch.” Said David Kuar, who fled to UNMISS compound in December.

“There is fighting too at Gundele, it is started more than 30 minutes ago” Kuar continued.

Similar fightings were reported yesterday by the residents of Yei and also Terekeka, the home town of governor Konga, who has allegedly fled an assassination attempt on Friday.

Report from Juba technical hospital believe that the hospital is overwhelmed by the influx of wounded soldiers from Terekeka and now from Bilpham.

Conflicting reports allege that the recent fighting in Juba and Terekeka fits the government forces against the Mundari youth, however, other reports reiterate that the fighting at Bilpham was inspired by a “hit list” that was allegedly drafted last Thursday in a meeting convened by the president and his newly appointed chief of staff, Gen. Malong Awan.

South Sudan government declared emergency blankets, just the other day, in what the government officials believe was an attempt to stabilize the capital before the independent day celebration. The government has distributed over 400 SSP to the 10 states to conduct similar preparations, however, it is only in Juba where gun searches, heavy deployment, road blocks and curfews have resumed.

The government has been at loggerhead with the people of Greater Equatoria for standing against the popular demand for federalism. The two regions of Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria, which comprises of 3 states each, are strongly backing the call for federalism against the 4 states of Greater Bahr el Ghazal.

Juba has sustained sporadic fightings, blended with heavy gunshots at the Tiger Battalion, for the last six months; however, the government has maintained control of most parts of Greater Equatoria and Greater Bahr el Ghazal.

Fightings resumed in Juba last Friday, allegedly between the forces of  CES governor, Clement Wani Konga, and those of Salva Kiir. Contrarily, government sources have attributed the fightings to drunk soldiers and foreign allied gangs.

The governor, Clement Wani Konga, has fled the country to the neighboring Uganda, in what an insider believes was a run to safety. The government, however, believes that Governor Konga went to visit his family in Uganda and would return to duty soon.

Although many South Sudanese are eagerly waiting to hear from the governor, GRECOR has independently verified that Konga “is safe and sound with the opposition”

” GRECOR can confirm with great confidence that General Wani Konga is safe and sound with the opposition. He will make public statement in due time when he is fully rested in any way he determine fit.”

The rooted armed opposition, led by the country’s former vice president, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who is currently in South Africa on his regional and continental tour, is calling on the region and the international community to recognize it as the national government.

“We urge the IGAD member states and the international community to recognize leadership of the SPLM/A In opposition as the legitimate representative of the South Sudanese people. We represent their interest of free federal South Sudan, a call embraced by all the quarters of South Sudanese except the ruling elite who wants to run a centralized system in order to loot the nation.” read a statement from Dr.Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, the Chairman for National Committee for Political Mobilization.
