May 30, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Sources from Nairobi, Kenya, confirm that senior SPLM cadres from the presidency region of South Sudan have joined the liberation movement under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon.

According to Machar’s spokesperson, James Gatdet Dak, a renowned army general, Gen. Dau Aturjong and colleagues have joined the resistance movement, SPLM/A.

“A renowned army general, Dau Aturjong, has just declared joining our resistance movement, SPLM/A. He declared his decision today in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. Gen Aturjong joined the movement along with other army officers and politicians, some who are former members of parliament from Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.” Dak stated.

Similar report was echoed earlier by the deputy spokesperson, Cde. Mabior Garang de Mabior, on his social media, however, he didn’t reveal the names of the heavy weights joining the armed opposition.

“…more South Sudanese senior Army Generals and Politicians abandon Salva the Terrible…and join the forces for democratic change in the country…more to follow after messages from your local IP Address…” Mabior said.

The renowned army general, Gen. Dau Aturjong Nyuol, reigns from Salva Kiir’s home region, specifically from Gok-machar Village, Aweil North County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

The well educated general has fought for democracy and well being of his fellow citizens for decades within his country until he was forced to exile shortly before South Sudan independent.

“My people deserve democracy and education. Those that have prayed on our children and families, have struck hearts with fear and marginalized should be held accountable to fullest”. Gen. Dau was quoted by Salem News reporter after an interview in 2010.

“Stop the marginalization; it is time for freedom, I will not accept this, and command our people to stand against this. I would like to work with CSI (Christian Solidarity International) and others to carry out the redemption of slaves and help prevent the returning of this inhumane practice by working with the International community to prosecute those that have continued to prey and conduct these acts”. Dau continued.

Gen. Dau spoke out from exile following the 2010 election, in which he ran for governorship, but denied the chance to lead his people and a chance to present himself in a court of law saying “The SPLM and NCP, they are playing a game with me and the people.”

Gen. Dau, who ran as an independent candidate, believes that his votes were rigged by the SPLM leadership in favor of  Lt. General Paul Malong Awan, the current Chief of Staff.

“I am not happy about the elections that took place my people asked me to help bring them democracy, they voted for me as Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal. The elections was looted and stolen from us all and the positive result was given to a false winner. I chose to self exile, I do not want violence, no bloodshed! This is the first time they are being asked to govern themselves, should be celebrated but it was refused by our controlling government.” Dau told Salem New in July 2010.

The 2010 election disadvantaged most of the independent candidates in the ten states. Notorious generals like George Athor Deng and Col. Gatluak Gai, who resisted Salva Kiir’s dictatorial tendencies, after the election crisis later met controversial deaths during peace talks with Juba.

Machar’s Powerful Meetings

Machar’s Nairobi meetings have strengthened the party, politically and regionally. While a private meeting with Salva Kiir was cancelled, Machar and his deputy Lt. Gen. Alfred Lado Gore convened a successful meeting with intellectuals and leaders from Greater Equatoria region. Among the elders and intellectuals that attended the grand receptions and meetings include Dr. Richard Kenyi and other intellectuals, who strongly applause the resistance movement.

Machar will fly to Khartoum shortly after finalizing his meetings with the Kenyan officials. Although this visit may has similar political impacts, South Sudanese regime, through its ministry of foreign affairs, has shown discomfort citing possible military dealing with the Northern neighbor.

Such discomfort was taken to another level in the neighboring Uganda.
