May 27, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Instead of Khartoum, Machar has opted for Nairobi. Sources believes that this last minute decision was influenced by looming accusations of ties with Khartoum.

According to Gatdet Dak, Machar’s spokesperson, Dr. Reik arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday.

“Yes, our chairman, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, begins his official visits to some of the regional countries with his first leg in the Republic of Kenya on Tuesday,” Machar’s spokesman James Gatdet Dak said.

The purpose of Machar’s regional tour, according to Dak, is to brief and consult the regional leaders on Addis Ababa peace process.

“The purpose of these visits is for our leadership to consult with the respective leaderships of these countries on the peace process to end the current crisis in South Sudan,” Gatdet explained.

“He will also brief them on the progress made so far as well as reassure the regional leaders on our commitment to reach a workable political settlement with Salva Kiir’s government.”Dak continued.

Machar who has spent two weeks in Addis Ababa, will spend unspecified time in Nairobi during his visit. According to Dak,“it will depend on the issues to be discussed. He may be here for a few days or maybe for a week.”

Dak also clarifies that Machar may not visit Uganda, despite pending invitations from Museveni, unless Museveni withdraw his forces from South Sudan.

Dak believes that Uganda declared itself as an enemy for opting to intervene militarily unlike the countries that are now being visited by Machar and his leadership.

Last week, the foreign affairs minister was quoted saying that Sudan should organize Machar’s visit to Khartoum through his ministry, however, the ministry, the spokesperson, MAWIEN Makol Arik, has this week stated that Machar should be free to move as he wants because they have no control over him.

Foreign Affairs spokesman, Mawien Makol Arik, hopes that Machar’s visit will encourage him to adhere to peaceful process and  “not attack government forces or civilians who support the government.”
