Feb. 19, 2014 [Miraya] — The Minister of Interior is calling for the recruitment of more organized forces into the oil protection unit.

Aleu Ayieny Aleu says most of the forces at the oil producing sites appear to have defected to the opposition.
Aleu says many forces in Unity State, Upper Nile and Jonglei have also left their ranks.
“Most of the forces that defected actually hail from the Ministry of Interior in these three states and even other states are affected because the majority of the soldiers used to hail from certain ethnic groups. This thing has affected these institutions. And for you to protect the oil, you are going to recruit new forces completely.”

The Minister was speaking to Members of Parliament at the National Legislative Assembly.

Meanwhile the Chief Whip in National Assembly Tulio Adongi Ayabu says about 70% of the army seems to have been affected by the current crises.

Tulio also appealed to what he refers to as foreign “allied forces” not to withdraw from the country until the current “weakness” was addressed.

“We have realized that this nation 70% or 65% of the army seems to have been affected by this coup. We need to fill that gap and filling that gap we need our strategic friends to continue staying while we are filling until the time when know that we are capable with good fate we shall allow them to leave on good grounds.”
