Oct 24, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— As war continues in Greater Mundri County, the Commander of SPLA-IO in Western Equatoria calls on Civilians to vacate areas occupied by government soldiers in Western Equatoria and particularly in Mundri West and Lui areas.

The opposition captured Kediba, the capital of Greater Mundri County, on October 9th and fought on to capture more government garrisons in Wadi Payam, according to reliable sources in the area.

For the last three weeks fighting has continued in Greater Mundri around the headquarters but the opposition claim to have maintained its position, a report that cannot be independently verified due to insufficient networks and inaccessibility.

The network in Greater Mundri has been disconnected by the government after President Salva Kiir declared a state of emergency on Greater Mundri.

The government has cut off humanitarian access and delivery of basic services to Greater Mundri.

According to capt. Girma Apaya, the spokesman of SPLA-IO commander in Western Equatoria, civilians must leave the scenes to avoid being caught in crossfire.

“The office of Division 9# of SPLA IO in Western Equatoria do hereby warn all civilians currently residing in Mundri West and Lui to evacuate the area effective from today 23/10/2016.” Capt Girma Apaya said.

“The SPLA IO will soon match into those towns and would wish to ensure that the civilians are not caught up in cross fire.” he continued.

The opposition advises civilians that they would be safer from atrocities, rapes and war crimes perpetuated by government soldiers if they go to “liberated areas” or “UNMISS camps” in nearby towns.

“For your own good and safety of others or your relatives,  please circulate this message as widely as possible.” Apaya continued.

So far, many civilians have been targeted and brutally victimized by soldiers on both sides of the conflict.

While civilians, including aid workers, have been killed or raped by government soldiers, those who survived have fled to neighboring countries or UN camps.

South Sudan violence resumed in July 2016 and it has been escalating in Equatoria, Upper Nile and parts of Bhar el ghazal region.

With more than 1 million people displaced to refugee camps within and outside the country, more than 50% of South Sudan population face hunger, famine or suffering from curable diseases.
